Depends, lyrically I'd rate the older ones worse than By the Way and Stadium Arcadium. Again I look for meaning in lyrics and am still getting acquainted to self titled and the Uplift Mofo Party Plan but their newer music displays their love of life a lot more. All his lyrics are bad-ass, but I like the layers of BtW and SA more than the straightforwardness of S/T and UMPP. BSSM and Californication are imbetweens of those two styles. (probably why casual fans like those albums the most)
